wildflowers that carpet the ground.
The sensation of climbing down a gorge to
see the landscape and craggy cliff faces below is
one that everyone must experience at least once.
Kalbarri National Park plays host to the Murchison
River gorges, a particularly gorgeous set of rock
faces that plummet into the Murchison River below.
From there, you can visit Nature's Window, a
natural rock arch that superbly frames the upstream
view, and is a handy 400m walk from the carpark.
If you're going to make the trip up the Coral
Coast, make it really worth your while and visit
the Pilbara, a region that has landscapes so ancient
they date back two billion years.
Buzzing with the life of the state's mining boom,
the region is the source of millions of tonnes of
iron ore, reflected in the ochre red of the dirt and
The spectacular Karijini National Park is a
veritable adventure playground within reach of
the coast by car or bus and once you are there, it
is not hard to find the beauty spots -- simply pull
into a carpark, walk 50m and watch waterfalls
rush down canyons into cool rock pools. The
colours in the ranges are fantastic and there
are campsites available. There are also gorges
galore to view and traverse, with a range of
difficulty levels, as well as scenic walks aplenty
and stunning settings like the gorgeous Fern Pool
where you can take a load off and lay flat out like
a lizard on a hot rock.
