Vineyard 28 continues to produce a variety of
wines and remains a popular stopover for people
making the journey to and from Perth. There are
barbecue facilities and a great range of local quilting
products on display at very reasonable prices.
Moojelup Farm is another small-scale producer
near Harvey that can be visited by appointment.
The winery specialises in premium shiraz, semillon
and cabernet varieties made with handpicked
fruit and traditional methods such as basket hand
pressing and barrel ageing.
If you're looking to lunch in the Geographe, you
need to either book ahead or know where you are
going as the options are attractive but limited to
particular days and times. Organising a picnic is
a lovely default option and many of the wineries
provide barbecue facilities.
CU@58 is in the heart of town and remains the
best place to eat, dishing up a range of modern
Australian cuisine in the beautifully renovated pub
and garden. The family friendly setting provides
entertainment for kids with drawing equipment
and a TV corner set up inside.
If you're willing to head a little further out of
town, the idyllic Old Goldfields Orchard & Cider
Factory serves up delicious homemade meals and
cakes. You can also discover Donnybrook's gold
mining history at the information centre on site or
hire fishing gear and tackle the dam.
In the Ferguson
Set aside a few hours to enjoy the atmosphere
at Hackersley Estate Winery & Cafe, which offers
a lovely set menu in the restaurant overlooking
Be sure to make a reservation, as they are
often fully booked. Ferguson Farmstay is
another stunning location where you can enjoy
home cooked meals indoors or on the verandah
surrounded by roses.
For a picnic setting it's hard to beat the grounds
at St Aidan wines, where you can also enjoy a light
lunch in the restaurant on weekends.
Otherwise sample the amazing burgers and
specialty dishes whipped up by the new chef at
Wild Bull Brewery, which you can wash down
with beer brewed on site.
