FOR NATURE LOVERS
In a region where nature is the main attraction,
it makes sense that local retailers reflect this.
Tinderbox in Balingup was established in 1982,
and has developed a cult following for its range
of handmade, herbal products including skincare,
incense, pure-plant perfumes, massage oils and
remedies with zero hidden chemical additives.
With an extensive range of professionally packaged
products presented in their delightfully old-
fashioned store in the heart of town, you should
join the small army of devotees that make regular
trips from Perth and overseas to stock up on the
Also in Balingup, the Jalbrook Knitwear
Gallery offers a boutique selection of local and
international alpaca and knitwear products,
including a range of 100 percent ecological cotton
products from South America. The store offers
reasonably priced fashion for men and women
right through to one-off dresses priced at more
than $1000. There are also cute finger puppets in
stock for kids.
Lavender has long been a popular herb for its
relaxing scent and soothing natural properties.
Along with the aforementioned range of handmade
products at Balingup Lavender Farm, you'll find a
delightful and affordable selection at the Nannup
Lavender Farm. Everything from lavender pillows
to healing balm and bubble bath are for sale in the
Secret Garden Tearooms and Shop -- which also
makes a lovely spot for morning or afternoon tea
from Friday to Sunday. Don't miss the Lavender
Harvest Celebration held here from January 8
- 11, featuring talks and demonstrations on the
properties of lavender along with high tea served in
Natural skincare and mineral make-up products
are stocked at Aromatic Passions Tea House in
Bridgetown, where aromatherapy massages and
natural facials are also available by appointment.
On the main street of Bridgetown, fashion
retailer Barney & Fleur has a focus on Australian
labels with fashion by Metallicus, Morrison
and Thompson with a small range of cosmetics
available. However, with their growing popularity,
they have now opened up a new space next door
dedicated to an extensive range of Bath and Body
products, including Australian brands Mor, Wild,
Bloom and Glasshouse.
In Nannup the retail scene is much smaller,
but Nannup Furniture Gallery is a real standout.
Owner and furniture maker Phil Laird specialises
in beautiful, one-off pieces created from local
jarrah and marri timber. The quality craftsmanship
and affordable prices have made Phil's work
popular for custom orders, but it's also worth
dropping by his new showroom to see the unique
selection of ready-made furniture on offer.
