Towering forests, charming historic towns and
boutique wineries nestled among lush pastures. The
Blackwood River Valley offers all this and more. In
this beautiful valley, shaped over eons by the majestic
Blackwood River, fertile farmlands and fruit-filled
orchards mingle with karri and jarrah forests and
green gorges swirling with romantic winter mists.
Here you can ramble along bush trails, including the
famous Bibbulmun Track, or cycle along the renowned
Munda Biddi trail. You can canoe along the river or
take a relaxing trip along one of WA’s most scenic
drives – the triangular route between the three major
towns – Balingup, Nannup and Bridgetown – the South
West’s only heritage-listed town. The many heritage
buildings in the region’s towns add to the village-style
atmosphere and those with a penchant for the past
will want to keep coming back. You can browse in
craft shops and art galleries, fish for trout in the river
or taste fine wines at family-run wineries. Rich soil
translates to blooming gardens, which go on display as
part of the Festival of Country Gardens in spring, and
of course, there’s wonderful wildflowers, too.
