Geraldton will be the focus of international ocean sailing in October
when it hosts the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet. The 2011/12
Clipper Race will start in Southampton on July 31 with the 10 yacht fleet
racing around the world and returning to the United Kingdom. The City
of Geraldton-Greenough and Tourism WA have sponsored one of the
race yachts to be named Geraldton Western Australia to promote the
state globally for the 11 months it will take the fleet to circumnavigate
the world. The fleet is expected to start arriving in Geraldton in late
October, where they will stay for about seven days before heading off
on the race’s next leg, to New Zealand.
New owners for Faraway Bay | Faraway Bay
in the east Kimberley has defied the general
downturn in the Australian tourism industry.
Now with new owners – Kevin and Kathie
Reilly – it will continue to cater for high-end
clientele. The Caribou – an 18m vessel that
sleeps up to eight guests – has travelled up with
the couple, and guests can now take a cruise to
the iconic King George Falls, staying overnight.
Soundtrack for the Nullarbor
The ABC has released a series of audio tours to tune into while making
the 1200km Nullarbor crossing. Tracking the awe-inspiring journey
between Port Lincoln on SA’s Eyre Peninsula to Norseman in Western
Australia, this series of 10 audio tours created by ABC reporters is an
essential download for anyone planning to undertake the road trip of a
lifetime. The website also includes a Nullarbor map, weather forecasts,
and a facility for travellers to upload their own photos of Nullarbor trips.
