BEACHES AND WATERWAYS
It’s best to hit the beaches in the morning, with the sea breezes arriving early
afternoon. There are no lifeguards or flags because local bay beaches are
mostly sheltered and safe, free from rips and stingers. Open ocean beaches at
Melros, Secret Harbour and The Cut (Port Bouvard) are popular but less safe.
Swimming | Town Beach is an easy walk from the city, otherwise you’ll
need a car or bike to get to the safe swimming beaches along the coast.
Surfing | Try Wannanup and Dawesville beaches, plus Avalon, 4th
Groyne, Pyramids, The Wedge, Florida and Melros breaks.
Snorkelling | Reefs between Hall’s Head and Falcon are popular for
snorkelling and diving, especially Robert’s Point at Falcon Bay.
Kitesurfing | Try Blue Bay and Peel Inlet
Canoeing and kayaking | Canals, estuary and Murray River
Boating and jetskiing | Hire boats, pontoons, jet-skis and water craft
from the many operators in and around town.
Fishing | Local fishing retailers can lead you in the right direction, or
get info online. There are tour operators who can get you offshore, and
excellent fishing can be had at the marinas and jetties within Mandurah
city. Beach fishing sites include Silver Sands south to Falcon.
Crabbing | Hit the estuary at Dawesville, Novara and Coodanup.
