New shine on Jewel Cave | Think
you’ve seen Jewel Cave? Not in this
light. In July 2011 a new lighting
system was installed that illuminates
parts of the cave never before seen
by visitors. The adjusted LED lighting
is the latest innovation at the cave
that was given an ecologically
sensitive transformation at the
end of 2010. It now has a new
entrance, interpretation centre, retail
stands and improved facilities that
complement the natural setting.
Easy Rider | The new Classic Sidecar
Tours is offering tours-for-two in the
sidecar of a Harley Davidson. There’s
a beer-lover tour, wine-connoisseur
tour and a sunset tour... or just hire
the two-wheel thrill by the hour.
Hire a craft | There’s a new locale
for Dunsborough Surf Cats: Main
Beach at the end of Dunn Bay Road.
Between December and April you
can hire any of its shiny new craft,
from surf cats to pedal boats, kayaks
to stand-up paddle boards.
For creatives | Gathering the girls
together? Artistic Hen is now offering
life-drawing classes in the south-
west. They specialise in ladies’ days
and hens’ parties, offering a creative
alternative to shooters and strippers.
And if you’re feeling arty, the
Tinkahill Studio in Dunsborough is
the studio of artists Hohn Garde and
Su Berghuis-Garde, and offers classes
and workshops as well as exhibitions.
New chef at Aravina | He’s worked as
a private chef on super yachts, now
Clinton Hutchinson is head chef at
Aravina Estate. Since August, he has
been plying his modern Australian
style at the winery restaurant, open
for lunch Wednesday to Sunday.
Feet first | Adding to Dunsborough’s
already rich style scene, shoe store
ShoeBeDoo is now open in Dunn Bay
Road. It’s a fun, boutique store with a
focus on glamour and originality.
