50 GREAT IDEAS
22. KAYAK AROUND THE STATE
Western Australia has more than 20,000km of coastline to explore. During winter, it’s best to head
north for calm conditions along the Coral Coast (try Ningaloo Reef for spectacular marine life). From
November, reduced flow in the South West is ideal for beginners and families; try sections near Sues
Bridge and Warner Glen Bridge (both accessible by 2WD) in the Blackwood River.
21. SEE PILBARA
The Pilbara is home to an array
of Aboriginal rock art, some of
which dates back thousands of
years. The Burrup Peninsula has
the highest concentration of works.
Try Deep Gorge, located near
Karratha, for a dense display of
works depicting animals (such as
kangaroos, emus and whale sharks)
along with spirit beings.
23. See Karijini
80km east of Tom Price in
the Pilbara, Karijini National
Park remains one of the State’s
most beautiful assets. With
breathtaking gorges, brilliant
colours and deep waterholes, it is
a haven for hikers and explorers.
There are two campgrounds and
some facilities. April to October
is the best time to visit.
