31. GET OFF THE MAINLAND
Hundreds of untouched islands are scattered off the West Australian
Coast. Near Esperance, the dazzling Recherche Archipelago includes
Woody Island, a popular spot for fishing, camping, snorkelling and
bushwalking. Further north, the Houtman Abrolhos Islands (60km west
of Geraldton) also make for spectacular diving, snorkelling and fishing.
29. Kite-surf Geraldton
If you like kite-surfing, you’ll like Geraldton. Try Coronation Beach, Point Moore
or Separation Point for blustery conditions. In the south, Augusta remains one of
the best locations. Beginners should head to Flinders Bay for gentler waves.
30. CAMP UNDER THE STARS
With our stars some of the brightest in the Southern Hemisphere, you must
do this at least once in your life. Grab a tent and sleep under the stars in one
of the many DEC-owned, or privately operated campgrounds around the
State. Remember to bring warm clothes, as it does get chilly at night.
32. Drink in the
Oenophiles will relish more
than 50 wineries dotting the
picturesque Swan Valley. You can
explore the region by car, or on
an organised tour, at any time of
year. The trails include boutique
cellar-doors and world-renowned
wineries – many with restaurants.
