Taking a maximum of 12 guests at any one
time, and with access only by floatplane
or helicopter, Kimberley Coastal Camp is
one of Australia’s most exclusive retreats.
The laid-back hub of hand-built bungalows
is perched on the pristine shores of the
Admiralty Gulf, opposite the Mitchell Plateau.
It gives guests a unique opportunity to
experience the dramatic natural formations of
the Kimberley Coast – and the ancient Gwion
Gwion (or Bradshaw) rock art it is home to –
without the hordes of tourists.
Bushwalking, wildlife watching and boating
are all favoured pastimes at the camp, as is
relaxing by the pool with indulgent local
produce, taking in the glorious surrounds.
Fishers can throw a line in a range of waters,
from offshore reefs to mangrove-lined creeks,
and try their luck for the fabled barramundi,
as well as tuna, mackerel and jewfish.
There’s also the option of taking a tour to a
nearby island, where you can fossick for shells,
birdwatch or let a guide serve you up bush
tucker under the sun.
Operating since 1994, and under new
ownership since 2010, Kimberley Coastal Camp
has undergone significant transformation,
including a new boat, designer furnishings
and facility upgrades. Last year it received
recognition for eco tourism and cultural tourism
at the 2012 North West Tourism Awards.
Tastefully decked out to reflect the
surrounds, with bathrooms set into a
natural rock face and a design that lets in
the Kimberley sky, this is a one-of-a-kind
