he time has come to explore your own backyard! The metro area is wide,
and offers a myriad of experiences for shoppers, foodies, bar hoppers,
families, fishers, surfers, and those wishing to discover something new. From
Joondalup in the north to Bibra Lake in the south, the city is undergoing
enormous infrastructure changes befitting a sophisticated metropolis with a population of
over two million. Retailers offer eveything from the quirky to the offbeat, to the latest in
designs. Intimate, charismatic bars are dotted across the CBD, Northbridge and Mt Lawley.
Come spring, the outdoors call you to cycle and stroll around the Swan River or along the
coastlines. Stock up on fresh produce and gourmet goodies at any number of markets across
the metropolis and find a patch of grass in a nearby park for the optimum picnic experience.
Stunning beaches and gentle waterways – where fishing and sailing are perennial activites
– enhance the beauty of this cosmopolitan region. Try the patch under the Narrows Bridge
for some great fishing, and come September you must go twilight sailing with any member
at Royal Perth or Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Clubs. There is accommodation to suit every
budget, and restaurants to satisfy every taste. Seek here, and you shall find.
ACT LIKE A TOURIST
When was the last time you walked around the city like a tourist, free
from the worries of home life? Book a city staycation and visit the kind
of places you would if you were on holiday. Go to the galleries, visit the
museums, take in a show, spend a half-day browsing the shops and hang
out in bars and cafes. Why not join a walking tour of the city? If you’re in
Fremantle, soak up the famous cafe culture, seafood restaurants, heritage
trails, art galleries and markets, all accessible by foot, but scooter and bike
hire are the fun ways to roll.
Book into a hotel and while away the whole weekend with champagne,
strawberries, massages, in-house movies and room service. How great to
wake up in a bed you don’t have to make, to a breakfast you don’t have to
prepare. Enjoy the pool and spa facilities with not a care in the world. BYO
books, cards and wine, and don’t get out of that dressing gown!
SOAK UP SOME LUXURY
High-end shopping, pampering and culinary indulgence await from George
Street, East Fremantle to King Street in the CBD. There are plenty of day spas
– check out Claremont, Kings Park and Subiaco for some of the best. Find
high-end shopping at Claremont Quarter, which has undergone massive
redevelopment recently, or there’s the Wesley Quarter on Hay Street in
the city. For the funky and offbeat, check out stores in Northbridge and Mt
Lawley. Satisfy your palate with the new range of restaruants popping up
from the Crown Metropol in Burswood to St Georges Terrace in the CBD.
