PERTH AND SURROUNDS
HOT-AIR BALLOONING It’s serene, it’s unique, and it’s the best way to see
the gorgeous Avon Valley landscapes from a great height. Going out to the
farmstead at dawn and taking off is one of the most peaceful experiences
you will have in the world. No one can bother you out there
WINE TOURS Our wineries are boutique and owner-operated so you’re
dealing with people who harvest the grapes and produce the wine. There’s
so much knowledge to be gained from the winemakers in the area, plus
the wineries are very warm and welcoming. Our dry landscape leads to
beautiful crisp white such as verdelho and chardonnay. We also have some
beautiful fortified wines.
OLIVE OIL Again, the dry land and Mediterranean climate here lends
itself to harvesting great olives. You’ll find various local producers of olive
oil in the area – some have won awards for their varieties, extra virgin in
particular. We’ve had a good crop this year too.
THE PROXIMITY TO PERTH We’re really lucky to have this peaceful,
scenic tourist destination so close to the city. It means you can make a day
trip of your stay, escaping to this secluded paradise within an hour or so.
The drive is breathtaking, too – rolling hills, green paddocks and canola
fields in bloom in August.
JULIMAR STATE FOREST 28,000ha of beautiful jarrah, marri and wandoo
woodlands, with plenty of picnic spots, including Noble Falls, where the
wildflowers are in bloom in spring and the waterfall is stunning in winter.

DRIVE THE JULIMAR STRIP A host of wineries, shops, pottery studios
and retreats have come to form The Julimar Strip, a peaceful destination
point in Toodyay and Chittering, framed by the majestic woodlands of the
Julimar State Forest. Book yourself into one of the homesteads, B&Bs or
retreats along the strip, and unwind in the tranquil and isolated surrounds
for an entire weekend. Dine by a log-fire in one of the winery restaurants,
surrounded by vineyards and wildflowers in spring, and during the day
visit a local retailer or the pottery studio, all in close proximity. Of course,
there are plenty of picnic spots and trails to enjoy in the Julimar Forest as
well – it’s everything you need on one pleasant country drive, less than
an hour from Perth. Group tours are also available.
